DigiTech

Bristol is one of the UK’s strongest digital and deep-tech cities, with digital, science and tech roles now making up more than 13 per cent of all local jobs – one of the highest proportions in the country.

Around 2,000 DigiTech businesses operate across the city, from Artificial Intelligence (AI) and semiconductors to cloud, data science, cyber security, fintech and quantum technologies.

The sector is characterised by a dense network of high‑skill Small to Medium sized Enterprises, start-ups and university spin‑outs and fast‑scaling tech companies.

Bristol is home to globally recognised innovators including Graphcore, XMOS, Blu Wireless, Vertical Aerospace, and a wide range of AI, quantum and software firms.

The sector is deeply connected to Bristol’s universities and to the wider innovation ecosystem across the West of England, which provide a steady pipeline of talent, research and commercialisation.

Bristol’s digital sector is integrated with the city’s creative, energy and engineering strengths, offering a distinctive environment for technology firms developing real‑world, high‑impact applications.

Sector voice

“I look forward to seeing the continued growth of the scientific sector in Bristol, and the support systems that surround it. There is a wealth of talent in the city and we need to ensure there are job opportunities that allow people to work in a sector they’re passionate about.”
