Professional and Financial Services

Professional Services are the backbone of Bristol’s high‑value economy, employing around 55,000 people and representing the largest share of the city’s enterprise base.

The cluster includes legal services, financial services, architecture, engineering consultancy, accountancy, and a growing set of specialist advisory and regulatory firms.

Bristol has a strong mix of nationally significant firms and highly specialised mid‑sized practices. Hargreaves Lansdown, the UK’s largest retail investment platform, is headquartered in the city, while law firms such as Burges Salmon and TLT operate nationally and internationally. Major consultancies including Arup, Deloitte and PwC anchor advisory, engineering and professional capability.

These firms play a critical enabling role across the wider economy — supporting inward investment, financing growth, regulating innovation and providing the expertise needed by Bristol’s tech, creative, manufacturing and clean‑energy sectors.
