Smart and Sustainable

Delivering the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s)

Cities tell stories of society and civilisation, and Bristol is no different. It is part of our pioneering nature to actively play our part in global issues such as climate change and Covid-19. We are a city ready to make actions speak louder than words, and ready to grow but not at any cost. As such we have made an ambitious pledge to be carbon neutral by 2030 and a commitment to delivering the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in our 2050 One City Plan.

The United Nations SDGs are a framework for the key global goals of economic, environmental and social sustainability, which every country in the world has agreed to deliver by 2030. We are committed to delivering the SDGs locally, with every One City Plan goal mapped to them and collective action supported through the Bristol SDG Alliance and plans for the Global Goals Centre. Delivering these goals will continue to put our citizens at the heart of plans for growth.

Bristol has global ambitions, links and twin cities around the world, and was one of the first cities globally to assess our progress against the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s).

“Bristol is a shining light nationally and internationally as somewhere that is taking meaningful action on the UN SDGs. Cities will be needed to meet the SDG agenda and Bristol is at the forefront.”

David Donoghue, Former Irish Ambassador to the United Nations
