International Ambassador – Dr Shawn Sobers

Dr Shawn Sobers is a Professor of Cultural Interdisciplinary Practice at the University of the West of England. He teaches photography, filmmaking and research methods. Shawn is a visual anthropologist and his work has spanned a wide range of topics from the trans-Atlantic slave trade to disability and walking, Ethiopian and Caribbean cultures to photography and generative AI.

He co-founded Firstborn Creatives Ltd (now Firstborn Studios, a Community Interest Company) in 1999 alongside Rob Mitchell and has since made programmes for BBC 1, ITV West and Channel 4.

Shawn was also a member of the Bristol History Commission.
